Access Tip – How to Create a Date/Time Stamp Field

You might find it useful to create a field in your table that acts like a date/time stamp. In other words, as soon as someone enters a record Access will record the time and date the record was created.

Here are the simple steps involved:

  1. Create the field.
  2. In table design view, set the field’s type to date/time.
  3. In the properties section at the bottom of the design view screen, make the following changes.
  • Choose your date/time format.
  • Set the default value to =Now().
  • You might also want to set the Required property to Yes.
  • Set Show Date Picker property to Never.

When you are done, your properties window will look a little like this:
